Was it cheaper to upgrade than to just buy a new system?

cpu/board was $260
had the extra 212 laying around
new ram $55
and the ssd hd a discount, $110

total upgrade cost was about $450

ill throw the old board in the htpc

So 450 bucks to access your pRon quicker? Sounds like a bargain!

i7 6700k or i5 6600k
any z170 board (m.2 is a good bonus for a very fast ssd)
212evo, x or 240mm closed loop cooler
16g ddr4
500g ssd (m.2 if the board has it)
gtx 1060 6g to gtx 1080
good 500+w power supply, evga 500b is often cheap and good enough $40-50 usd
any case

gtx 1060 is great for single monitor 1080p gaming
for 3x 1080 or 1440p go with gtx 1070
for 4k, gtx 1080 is not quite enough for 50+fps gaming at higher settings

are you near a microcenter?
http://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/default.aspx

6600k is $180+tax, and you can get $30 off a mobo
